ANSI, as it is widely known, is a non-profit organization that provides a forum under which standards developers such as ALI and ASME, along with many other organizations such as IEEE, SAE, ASTM, NFPA, NSF to name a few, can develop standards covering just about any type of equipment or subject matter. ANSI provides the guidelines for voluntary standards development through oversight of the development process, which ensures balance and consensus among materially affected parties and resolution of negative viewpoints.

ASME is a professional society comprised of mechanical engineers. Among the many services it offers to the engineering community is the development of standards governing a vast quantity of mechanical devices and equipment. The Portable Automotive Lifting Devices committee on which Mr. Heath serves develops standards governing several pieces of automotive lifting equipment including: hydraulic hand jacks, transmission jacks, engine stands, vehicle support stands, mechanical screw jacks, mechanical bumper jacks, mechanical scissors jacks, mechanical frame jacks, upright type mobile lifts, service jacks, wheel dollies, shop cranes, swing type mobile lifts, scissors type mobile lifts, auxiliary stands, side lift jacks, high reach supplementary stands and automotive ramps. Mr. Heath also serves on two subcommittees of the ASME B30 committee governing cranes.

ASSE is a professional society comprised of those persons active in or interested in the promotion of safety as a general premise. Programs include education and training of safety professionals. Mr. Heath is active in standards development within ASSE and serves on committees governing aerial lift safety, construction equipment safety and trucking.
